studio quarry

If you wandered into my studio right now you would find these stacks of sweater pants cut and waiting to go together..

…these stacks of new fabrics waiting to be cut into bags…

…and this little face saying “mama come play”!

So….I’ll be playing peek a boo and reading stories if you need me.

Disclaimer: Don’t worry FR fans….she does sleep sometimes and my in-laws are here this week to baby-wrangle so the little shop won’t be totally neglected.

Photos and such…

I have some pics from the Shopping and Sangria Garden party that I have been wanting to post, but we were away on holidays and it was a bit crazy. Those of you who joined us know all about the fantastic cheesecake (thanks Jen!) and the sangria but the rest of you are out of luck. Maybe next time….

So…some photos of the digs

I know it looks like no one came to my party, but that is because everyone was so busy shopping and eating and drinking that I didn’t have time to take photos and be the hostess too!

So…that was our summer party. The next party is our fall collection launch on September 22, which is coming up incredibly soon. Yikes. I need to get busy. So…I’ll be sewing for the next few weeks but I will send more details your way about our fall launch.

See you soon!

calling all craftsters…

I am working on getting some “craft-along” type groups/classes going in Quesnel and just wanted to put the word out there and see if there is any interest. I mostly work with textiles so probably any class things would involve fabrics somehow, but my mom Cindy may offer some crocheting or knitting classes if you want to learn that kind of thing. Anyways….any thoughts, comments, ideas, input etc. would be great!

this and that

dsc00475.jpgI have been experimenting with some new bag designs this week, partly inspired by the arrival of my copy of “bend the rules sewing” by Amy Karol. It is great, although I haven’t actually made any of the projects yet, they have inspired me to try some new techniques in my bags. For example, this is my first attempt at a drawstring type handle, a variation of one of the designs in the book:

I also tried out this handle design, also by Amy Karol which has one short handle and one long. The long one goes through the short one making a closure. I really like it because it has a closure but it stays reversible. Usually, if I put a snap in it, it isn’t reversible anymore, so this is a nice alternative.

Also inspired by my new book, I tried a technique called “free-motion quilting” which is basically just drawing a picture with the thread. I am pretty happy with the results and it was a lot of fun and more creative than just the straight seams that I am used to.

These three bags, along with a lot of other new designs will be with me at the Farmer’s market tommorrow if you feel the need to snap them up (or just have a visit and look).

Also, we now have gift certificates at the shop in any amount, and we are launching a customer appreciation program next week involving free stuff for things like shopping, bringing friends, and having parties. All things that most women do well, so it should be easy for most of you to be “appreciated”!

Hi there! Come on in and make yourself comfortable. We are glad you found us. Things are keeping busy here at our little shop we are happy to say. Thank you so much for your support and encouraging comments! It means so much to us, and we are so grateful for all the love.

We are going to be at the Quesnel Farmer’s Market this Saturday, August 11. There is an art event going on there as well so it should be good times. I have some new bag designs that I will be launching this weekend too! The market opens at 8:30 and closes at 1pm. That makes it a very early morning for Stella and I, but I am sure my trusty neighbourhood coffee shop will come through for me.
